Release of an un-woman, installed at Towson University Center for the Arts, (2024)
reused South Indian dance jewelry, blouse, white sari, and holi powder
What lies at the core of a woman? What does that core, consist of, and what ignites it into conflict with her outward form? This piece is born out of my own reflection on release, desire, love, and gender presentation. Not just for queer women, but for all people, we are a great deal more than our surface. There is violence inherent in zipping oneself into the role patriarchy has written for us, and beauty in the release from it.
